Informed Consent

Physiotherapy is generally safe and effective, but every treatment option can involve benefits, risks and alternatives.

Your choices

Your physiotherapist will discuss your condition and treatment options with you so you can make informed decisions about your care. You may consent to or refuse any form of treatment, and you may seek a second opinion at any time.

Once consent has been given, you can withdraw that consent at any time.

Personal questions

Your physiotherapist may ask questions about your injury, health, daily activities and goals. This information helps guide assessment and treatment, but you can choose what you share. If a question makes you uncomfortable, please let your physiotherapist know.

Physical contact

Assessment or treatment may involve physical contact. Your physiotherapist will ask for permission before physical contact occurs. If you feel uncomfortable at any time, you can ask for contact to stop immediately.

Children, minors and substituted consent

A custodial parent or guardian must provide consent before Reflex Physiotherapy can treat a minor.

If a person cannot understand the benefits and risks of treatment, consent may be provided by a legally authorised person. Evidence of that authority may be required.

Medical conditions and medications

Some health conditions can affect treatment decisions. Please tell your physiotherapist if you have any relevant medical condition, including:

  • a pacemaker or heart condition
  • a history of blood clots, thrombosis or stroke
  • diabetes
  • current medications or recent changes to medication

If you have questions about informed consent, please speak with your practitioner or contact us at info@reflex.physio.
